(building is now on the Historical Register) Paperback with left side covered staple binding, 5 1/4" x 6 3/4", 128 pages. Title page reads: "THINGS WORTH KNOWING A Volume of useful information for the Farmer, Merchant, Mechanic and Housewife. You will find herein many valuable items in regard to our Government, Tables and Statistics; Medical, Legal Mathematic Facts and other valuable information. We present this valuable volume to you with our compliments, knowing you will find it an ever-ready reference and help to you." Back cover says: "The Sure Way To Prosper Is To Save Money All The Time, The Safe Way To Save Is To Put the Money In Bank... Where one man gets rich through hazardous speculation, a hundred get poor. We offer you every accommodation consistent with good, sound banking. If one of your friends wants one of these books, tell him to call at our bank and ask for our president, Mr. S. C. Alexander." Table of Contents is at back, and in addition to exhaustive information regarding banking, other items of interest discussed in book are horse trading, poison antidotes, masonry, etiquette, bridal customs, emergency care, stain removal, tables, weights and measures, animal care, cooking...the list goes on and on. Just about everything you would need to know for turn-of-the-century living! NOTE: Book is VERY, very fragile, and requires careful handling. Pages close to the front ARE CRUMBLY, also ones closest to back. Corners are poor, areas missing, and cover is barely attached. Back cover missing a little area. Amazingly, it appears that all verbiage is present, readable and usable. Some staining inside, quite a bit up front, and speckled throughout. A few notations (not many). In spite of condition, it’s fascinating, and has historical value! And all the graphics, lettering, and borders are just so...Victorian! Hope someone will enjoy it, and thanks for looking!
